TotalEnergies EP Uganda is the upstream subsidiary of the global broad energy company TotalEnergies, which entered the Ugandan oil and gas sector in 2010.
The company was established to manage the exploration and production interests of TotalEnergies in the Albertine Graben region of Western Uganda. It is widely recognized for its technical leadership in developing the Tilenga oil fields and its role in coordinating one of the most significant energy infrastructure projects in East Africa, with a strong focus on balancing industrial development with environmental conservation and social safeguards.
The company provides a wide range of specialized services and manages critical operations within the upstream energy sector:
Oil field development and operations: Serving as the lead operator for the Tilenga Project (Contract Area 1 and License Area 2 North), which includes the drilling of over 400 wells across 31 locations.
Infrastructure construction: Overseeing the development of a Central Processing Facility (CPF) with a capacity to process 190,000 barrels of oil per day.
Pipeline management: Coordinating as a major shareholder in the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project for the transportation of crude oil from Hoima to the port of Tanga in Tanzania.
Environmental management and biodiversity: Implementing the "Net Positive Impact" strategy to protect Murchison Falls National Park and other sensitive ecosystems affected by project operations.
National content and capacity building: Facilitating the training and employment of Ugandan nationals and local companies through specialized industrial training and business development programs.
Land acquisition and resettlement: Managing the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) processes to ensure fair compensation and livelihood restoration for project-affected persons (PAPs).
Stakeholder engagement: Conducting large-scale community consultations and maintaining relationships with governmental and non-governmental organizations to ensure social license to operate.
Water and waste management: Implementing sustainable systems for the management of industrial water and drilling waste in compliance with international environmental standards.
