Sunmaker Oil and Gas Training Institute is a specialized vocational and professional training center headquartered in Kampala, Uganda.Founded in 2018 by four Chinese doctorates, Sunmaker was established to bridge the technical skills gap in Africa's energy industry. It is part of Sunmaker Energy (Uganda) Limited and operates from a modern 1.2-hectare campus capable of accommodating up to 600 students. The institute is recognized for its "localized education" model, providing internationally certified technical training to prepare a skilled local workforce for major projects like Tilenga and Kingfisher.

The institute provides a comprehensive suite of vocational, technical, and management services tailored for the energy and engineering sectors:

  • Technical and Practical Training: Offers specialized courses in high-demand fields such as 2G/3G/6G coded welding, electrical maintenance, mechanical engineering, and pipe fitting.

  • HSE and Safety Certification: Provides internationally recognized Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) training, including NEBOSH and IADC certifications.

  • Oil and Gas Operations: Delivers specialized curricula in upstream and downstream petroleum operations, well control (IWCF), and drilling engineering.

  • Human Resource Services: Offers specialized recruitment, personnel management, and HR consultancy to link trained graduates with major oil companies like SINOPEC, CNOOC, and TotalEnergies.

  • Management and Professional Development: Provides training in general management, oil and gas management, and industrial leadership.

  • Language Training: Offers English and Chinese language courses to facilitate communication within multinational project teams.

  • Community Development: Implements social impact projects focused on skills improvement and sustainable livelihoods for communities near energy development areas.

  • Technical and Vocational (TVET) Cooperation: Partners with international universities and vocational colleges to offer standardized diploma and certificate programs.
