Oranto Petroleum
Oranto Petroleum Limited (Uganda) is a Nigerian-owned indigenous exploration and production firm and a subsidiary of the Atlas Oranto Group.
Oranto Petroleum is part of Africa’s largest privately-held indigenous exploration group by acreage, founded by Prince Arthur Eze. In Uganda, the company is primarily recognized for its strategic operation of the Ngassa Deep and Ngassa Shallow blocks. It is distinguished by its "stratigraphic licensing" approach, which ensures the exploration of shallow reservoirs that may contain gas, as well as deep oil reservoirs.
The company provides specialized upstream services focused on the discovery and evaluation of hydrocarbon resources in the Albertine Graben:
Stratigraphic exploration: Managing exploration activities for both shallow (Ngassa Shallow) and deep (Ngassa Deep) reservoirs to ensure full acreage evaluation.
Seismic data acquisition and analysis: Acquiring new 2D seismic data (amounting to 326-line km) and reprocessing existing vintage 2D and 3D data sets to delineate the Ngassa structure.
Deviated drilling solutions: Implementing specialized drilling techniques where rigs are fixed on land and diverted under Lake Albert to access offshore reservoirs.
Petrophysical and AVO studies: Conducting advanced Amplitude Versus Offset (AVO) and petrophysical studies on existing wells (Ngassa-1 and Ngassa-2) to assess gas and oil shows.
Local content and capacity building: Hosting tender workshops and training programs for Ugandan businesses and entrepreneurs to encourage participation in drilling support activities.
Appraisal and work program management: Executing government-approved work programs, including Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) for proposed drilling sites.
Stakeholder engagement: Coordinating workshops and engagements with the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) and local government administrations in the Hoima and Kikuube districts.
