McDermott International is a global provider of engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) services for the energy industry.

McDermott has a long history of managing complex offshore and onshore energy projects and established its presence in Uganda to execute the multi-billion dollar EPCI contract for the Tilenga onshore facilities. The company is widely recognized for its large-scale industrial footprint in Western Uganda, its role in constructing the region's central processing facilities, and its extensive program for training and employing the Ugandan workforce.

The company provides several specialized high-level engineering and construction services critical to the development of Uganda's oil resources:

  • Engineering and design: Executing the front-end engineering design and detailed engineering for the Tilenga project’s central processing facility and associated well pads.

  • Procurement and supply chain management: Managing the global and local procurement of industrial equipment, piping, and materials required for large-scale oil field infrastructure.

  • Construction and fabrication: Overseeing the physical assembly and fabrication of the Central Processing Facility (CPF), which has a processing capacity of 190,000 barrels of oil per day.

  • Pipeline and flowline installation: Managing the installation of an extensive network of buried flowlines and feeder lines connecting multiple well pads to the central facility.

  • Project management and integration: Coordinating complex project schedules and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the timely delivery of energy infrastructure in remote environments.

  • National content and local capacity building: Implementing industrial training programs to certify Ugandan welders, pipefitters, and safety officers in international oil and gas standards.

  • Health, safety, and environmental (HSE) management: Enforcing rigorous safety protocols and environmental mitigation measures across all construction sites in the Albertine Graben.

  • Community and stakeholder engagement: Working in collaboration with local communities and sub-contractors to manage the social impact of large scale industrial operations.
