The company was established to apply Australian exploration expertise to Uganda’s oil-rich rift basin. Armour Energy Uganda is widely recognized for being the first Australian company to sign a Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) with the Government of Uganda. It is distinguished by its strategic focus on the Kanywataba block, a high-potential area located at the southern tip of Lake Albert, where it conducts geological and geophysical surveys to identify new oil and gas prospects.

The company provides several specialized services and manages technical operations within the upstream petroleum sector:

  • Oil and gas exploration: Conducting large-scale exploration activities in the Kanywataba Block, covering approximately 344 square kilometers.

  • Seismic data acquisition: Executing 2D seismic surveys and reprocessing existing data to map subterranean geological structures and identify potential traps.

  • Geological and Geophysical (G&G) studies: Performing detailed basin modeling and geochemical analysis to assess the maturity and presence of oil and gas.

  • Environmental and Social Impact Assessments: Managing comprehensive ESIA processes to ensure exploration activities comply with Ugandan environmental laws and international standards.

  • Drilling management: Preparing for and overseeing stratigraphic and exploration drilling programs to test identified prospects.

  • Local content participation: Engaging with Ugandan suppliers for civil works, logistics, and technical support services during exploration phases.

  • Community engagement: Implementing stakeholder management programs in the Ntoroko district to ensure transparency and local support for its operations.

  • Regulatory reporting: Working closely with the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) and the Ministry of Energy to fulfill work program obligations and license requirements.
