Uganda Association of Insurance Brokers

Core Focus and Functions

The IBAU works in the best interests of both its member brokers and the insuring public.

  • Advocacy and Lobbying: The association lobbies stakeholders for policies and regulations that create a conducive operating environment for insurance brokers.

  • Professional Standards: It ensures that members adhere to professional practices and ethical standards in their business dealings.

  • Public Education: Brokers act as consultants to the public, simplifying the complex language of insurance policies, helping clients understand coverage, and ensuring they receive maximum value from their premiums.

  • Claims Advocacy: IBAU members guide clients through the claims process, helping with documentation and follow-ups to ensure fair and timely compensation.

  • Capacity Building: The association partners with institutions like the Insurance Training College (ITC) to offer professional development and training programs, such as the Chartered Insurance Broking Program, to equip brokers with the necessary expertise.

  • Market Stability: Brokers help manage substantial risks by distributing them among multiple insurance companies, thereby avoiding the concentration of exposure with a single insurer.
