Rosebud Limited is Uganda's largest commercial flower farm and a leading exporter of cut roses globally. Founded in 2000 and part of the Ruparelia Group of Companies, the firm specializes in the high volume production of premium rose varieties. As of 2026, the company accounts for approximately 40% to 60% of Uganda's total flower exports, shipping millions of stems monthly primarily to European markets.
Production and varieties: The farm currently operates approximately 80 hectares of modern steel greenhouses equipped with advanced hydroponic systems. It cultivates over 18 varieties of roses, producing sweetheart roses (head size 3.2–3.8 cm) and intermediate roses (head size 3.8–4.5 cm).
Export market reach: The company exports more than 12 million stems per month. Its primary export destinations include the Netherlands, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
2024–2026 UK trade benefit: Under a special UK duty suspension effective from April 11, 2024, to June 30, 2026, Rosebud exports flowers to the UK at zero percent tariff, facilitating unlimited trade volume regardless of transit through third-country auction houses.
Workforce and social impact: The company employs approximately 1,500 people, roughly 60% of whom are women. It provides housing and local employment opportunities for residents across Uganda.
Sustainability and quality: Rosebud adheres to Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) systems, which reduce the use of agrochemicals through biological controls like predatory mites. It has maintained international certifications since 2008.
Infrastructure and technology: The farm features fully computerized climate-controlled propagation units and automated pack houses that have expanded from 1,500 to 4,000 square meters.
