RECO Industries Limited is a long-standing Ugandan agro-processing and manufacturing company established in 1980. Originally known for its flagship brand of high quality mattresses, the firm has evolved into a leading mission driven producer of specialized nutrition and food products. It is a key technical partner for global humanitarian organizations like UNICEF and the World Food Programme (WFP), specializing in treating malnutrition through locally sourced value chains.

• Specialized Nutrition (RUTAFA®): RECO is a pioneer in producing Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTF) under the brand Rutafa®. These life saving products are used to treat severe acute malnutrition in children and are distributed to hundreds of health facilities across East Africa.

• Consumer & Fortified Foods: The firm produces a wide range of everyday food products under the Pearl’s® brand, including fortified maize flour, corn soya blends, peanut butter, honey, jams, and fruit juices.

• RECO Foam: The company maintains its original industrial line, manufacturing high-density foam mattresses and pillows that are widely recognized in the Ugandan market for their durability.

• Industrial Extracts: RECO processes high value enzyme extracts such as Papain (from papaya) and Bromelain (from pineapple), alongside herbal extracts under the brand Nature®.

• Supply Chain & Farmer Impact: By late 2025, the firm had trained over 100,000 farmers in sustainable and climate smart agriculture. It sources raw materials like soybeans and groundnuts directly from thousands of smallholder farmers to ensure a traceable and high-quality supply chain.

• Agricultural Development: In partnership with agencies like USAID, RECO implements large-scale nutrition and agricultural projects, such as the Production for Improved Nutrition (PIN) project, which supports vulnerable populations and HIV/AIDS patients.

• Standards & Compliance: The firm’s manufacturing facilities are ISO- and HACCP-certified, ensuring all products meet international benchmarks for safety and nutrition.

• Hospitality: The group also operates the Hotel Margharita in Kasese, which provides accommodation and professional catering services in the Rwenzori region.
