Kyagalanyi Coffee Limited

Kyagalanyi Coffee Limited is Uganda's oldest licensed coffee exporter and a leading entity in the nation’s coffee sector. Established in 1992, it is a subsidiary of the Swiss-based Volcafe Group. The company is a dominant player in the procurement, processing, and global export of both Robusta and Arabica coffee, maintaining a significant sustainability footprint across Uganda’s coffee-growing regions.

• Green Coffee Export: KCL sources and exports high-quality green coffee to over 30 countries. In 2025, the company continues to be one of Uganda's top three exporters by volume.

• Processing Infrastructure:

• Namanve (Kampala): Operates a flagship, state-of-the-art green coffee processing facility and roastery.

• Mbale: Maintains a dedicated factory for processing Arabica coffee from the Mount Elgon region.

• Eco-Washing Stations: Manages a network of seven eco-washing stations in Mt. Elgon, West Nile, and a robusta-specific station in Sheema.

• Sustainability & Farmer Support: Through its Volcafe Way methodology, KCL provides technical assistance to thousands of smallholder farmers. In 2025, they are heavily focused on Regenerative Agriculture and climate-smart farming to ensure long-term crop viability.

• EUDR Compliance: As of late 2025, the company has completed large-scale farmer mapping and traceability audits to meet the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) requirements.

• Seedling Production: Operates a major nursery in Nakanyonyi, Mukono, producing coffee wilt-resistant (CWD-r) varieties to help farmers replace aging or diseased trees.

• Domestic Brands: Beyond export, KCL produces roasted coffee for the local and regional markets under brands such as Big Gorilla and Volcanic Republic.
