Kawacom Uganda Limited
Leading Uganda coffee exporter and processor

Kawacom Uganda Limited is a major coffee processor and exporter in Uganda, established in 1996 as the first African operation for the Switzerland-based ECOM Agroindustrial Corp (now part of the ofi/Olam food ingredients network). It is a market leader known for being a forerunner in the development and export of both high-quality natural Robusta and organic Arabica coffee from Sub-Saharan Africa.
Coffee Processing & Export: Kawacom sources coffee beans (Arabica and Robusta) and cocoa beans, processes them in its facilities, and exports them globally to Europe, America, Japan, and Asia.
Market Leadership: The company is recognized as one of Uganda's largest coffee exporters, consistently maintaining a significant market share and being known for quality and innovation in processing.
Sustainability and Farmer Support: Kawacom is heavily involved in farmer development projects to reverse declining production trends. Key initiatives include:
Seedling Nurseries: The company constructs and manages nurseries (e.g., in Bushenyi and other operational areas) to distribute high-quality coffee seedlings to farmers.
Training Centers: New farmers' training centers have been established to train growers on proper coffee handling, agronomic practices (GAPs), and quality control.
Processing Units: The Sipi Falls wet mill was established for centralized wet processing of coffee cherries, guaranteeing consistent quality and higher value for farmers.
Social Projects: The firm invests in social projects within coffee communities, such as extending safe water to schools and clinics and expanding school facilities.
Certifications: Products are based on various certifications, including Rainforest Alliance and UTZ Certified standards.
Digital Solutions: The firm utilizes digital data platforms like CropIn to monitor farmer engagements and provide tailored recommendations, ensuring traceability back to the producers via blockchain technology (Farmer Connect).
