Emata Uganda Limited
Uganda farm management and agricultural services

Emata is a Ugandan fintech and licensed Microfinance Institution (MFI) founded in 2020. It specializes in bridging the $240 billion agricultural financing gap in Africa by providing automated, digital, and affordable loans to smallholder farmers. By partnering with agricultural intermediaries such as cooperatives and aggregators, Emata utilizes data-driven risk analytics and artificial intelligence to offer financing without the need for traditional collateral.
AI-Powered Financing: Emata leverages a proprietary management information system and AI-based alternative credit scoring to convert farmer data such as delivery history and weather patterns into tailored credit limits.
Embedded Finance Model: Instead of individual lending, Emata embeds its financial services directly into the agricultural value chain. It provides free software to agricultural middlemen to digitize their operations in exchange for data used for automated lending.
Multi-Crop Reach: While initially focused on the dairy sector, the company has expanded to serve the coffee, cocoa, oilseeds, maize, potato, and horticulture sectors.
Product Offerings:
Digital Farmer Loans: Fast, AI-powered loans designed for farm investments like seeds, fertilizers, or irrigation.
Village Trader Loans: Weekly loans to support harvest-time cash flow.
Crop Insurance: Integrated climate safety nets for smallholders.
