Bukona Agro Processing Ltd (also known as BAPL) is a Ugandan manufacturer of denatured ethanol, a sustainable green fuel for cooking. Located in the Nwoya District, the company is a public private partnership with the , focused on providing a reliable market for smallholder farmers' cassava, maize, and sorghum, while offering a clean alternative to traditional cooking fuels like charcoal and firewood.

  • Clean Energy Focus: Bukona is at the forefront of Uganda's clean energy sector, producing ethanol powered cookstoves (Greenergy bio-stoves) and bio-fuel (denatured ethanol) that is clean, fast, affordable, and emission free.

  • Agro-Processing & Sourcing: The factory relies on locally grown cassava, maize, and sorghum. It provides a guaranteed market for over 10,000 farmers in Northern Uganda, processing approximately 100 tonnes of raw materials daily.

  • Biofuels Blending Program: The firm is among a few licensed companies in Uganda authorized to blend ethanol with petrol. A new blending plant in Malaba (a major East African border point) began operations in 2025 to support the government's National Biofuels Blending Programme, which aims to reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels.

  • Product Line Expansion: In addition to clean cooking solutions, the company also produces:

  • Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA): For liquor blending, medical, and chemical industries.

  • Animal Feeds: Manufactures cattle, poultry, and piggery feed from by-products.

  • Hand Sanitizers: Produced under the "Bukona V Protect" brand.

  • Awards & Recognition: In 2024, Bukona Agro Processors was honored with the "Best Renewable Energy Company of the Year" award at the 12th Visionaries of Uganda Awards.

  • Employment & Impact: The company employs hundreds of permanent and temporary staff, significantly contributing to post conflict economic revitalization in Northern Uganda.
