Agro Supply Uganda Limited

Uganda food processing and agribusiness company

Agro Supply Uganda Limited is a social enterprise and agri-fintech firm established in 2017. Headquartered in Kampala, the company focuses on empowering smallholder farmers through its innovative "save-to-buy" mobile layaway platform, which allows farmers to save gradually for high-quality, climate-resilient agricultural inputs without relying on predatory credit. As of late 2025, the firm has served more than 40,000 farmers across Uganda.

  • Save-to-Buy Layaway System: Farmers use a USSD shortcode (*284*43#) to make micro-payments via scratch cards or mobile money during the off-season. These savings are later used to purchase seeds, fertilizers, and tools during the planting season.

  • Climate-Resilient Inputs: The firm sources and distributes high-quality, weather-resistant seeds for grains, fruits, and vegetables from partners like SeedCo.

  • Agronomy Training: Provides hands-on and digital training (via SMS and IVR) on modern farming practices, including land preparation, pest control, and post-harvest handling.

  • Agent Model & Logistics: Operates through a network of over 130 village agents (40% of whom are women) to deliver inputs directly to rural communities.

  • Market Linkages: Increasingly focuses on completing the value chain by connecting farmers to large off-takers and processing grains locally to reduce post-harvest losses.

  • 2025 Milestones:

  • Leadership Award: In February 2025, CEO and founder Joseph Ogwal won the 40 Under 40 Africa Award in Cairo, Egypt, for his impact on the agribusiness category.

  • Financial Growth: Named the 13th Fastest Growing Company in Africa in 2024 by the Financial Times, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 150%.

  • Infrastructure: Setting up a significant grain processing facility equipped with Uganda’s first aflatoxin removal machine to offer premium commodity prices to far
